About the brewery
Matsui Shuzo was founded in 1726 in Kyoto beside the Kamo River, as one of the city’s smallest breweries. Its flagship Kagura draws on the renowned Kagura underground water to craft unfiltered namazake that preserves vibrant freshness. The sakes highlight elegant fruit aromas with a crisp, refined texture. The brewery offers year-round English-guided tours, allowing visitors to explore every stage of the brewing process. This boutique house beautifully combines traditional craftsmanship with accessible tourism.
